Team Finland names preliminary World Cup of Hockey roster

Team Finland general manager Jere Lehtinen joins Hockey Central at Noon to talk about his roster and whether the ice changes the way he picks his team.

The Finnish Ice Hockey Federation announced today the first 16 players named to its roster for the World Cup of Hockey 2016, taking place Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, 2016, in Toronto.

Each team’s full 23-man roster must be finalized by June 1.

Named to Team Finland are:

G Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators

D Esa Lindell, Texas Stars (AHL) – Dallas Stars hold NHL rights
D Olli Maatta, Pittsburgh Penguins

D Sami Vatanen, Anaheim Ducks

F Aleksander Barkov, Florida Panthers
F Joonas Donskoi, San Jose Sharks
F Valtteri Filppula, Tampa Bay Lightning
F Mikael Granlund, Minnesota Wild
F Jussi Jokinen, Florida Panthers
