On Monday, during the second period of Toronto’s 5-2 home win over the Philadelphia Flyers, Maple Leafs’ starting goaltender James Reimer strained a knee ligament and the team announced Tuesday that he will be out at least one week.
Rynnas was called up as insurance for Ben Scrivens, who stopped 32 of 33 shots in relief of Reimer Monday. Scrivens is expected to start Thursday when the Leafs visit the Carolina Hurricanes.
In 17 games with the Marlies this season, Rynnas is 8-8-1 with a 2.57 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
Scrivens and Rynnas were the goalie tandem for the Marlies for much of last season.
Goalie Drew MacIntyre has been lent to the Marlies from the Reading Royals of the ECHL to back up Mark Owuya.
