Wild to buy out contract of forward Thomas Vanek

NHL insider Chris Johnston discusses how hard a P.K. Subban trade would be to construct on either end, and touches on the latest on the Oilers search for defence.

The Minnesota Wild will buy out the contract of forward Thomas Vanek, according to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune.

Vanek missed the Wild’s playoff series defeat in the first round this season after suffering a rib injury. His regular season was disappointing as he finished with 18 goals and 41 points in 71 games played.

The forward would have been on the Wild’s books for one more season at an annual average value of $6.5 million.
