UFC 160 co-headliner Mark Hunt may have lost to Junior dos Santos Saturday, but he fought quite valiantly en route to sharing the Fight of the Night bonus with his opponent.
Especially considering he fractured a toe in his right foot in the first round of their fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The 39-year-old heavyweight posted on his Facebook page: “thanks for the support apologies about the result junior was to slick for me,got a broken toe first round, and had no movement, but like i said before if i am going out i am out on my back thanks again 1luv.”
According to MMAjunkie.com, the nasty injury required six stitches.
Hunt managed to stay in the fight until the last minute of the third round, when he was knocked out following a spinning head kick from dos Santos.
As a result of the injury, Hunt was one of seven fighters handed a 180-day medical suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Hunt cannot have any contact for 45 days or fight for the next 60 days, and must get his broken right toe cleared by a doctor if he wants to fight again in the next six months.
