– Toronto native crowned newest sportscaster and face of Gillette in Canada –
– Earns one-year contract with Sportsnet and Gillette as spokesperson –
TORONTO (November 22, 2013) Last man standing. The search for Canada’s next sportscaster is over, as Sportsnet and Gillette Canada announced Anthony Bruno as the winner of Gillette DRAFTED Season Five earlier this evening at the Sportsnet 360 studios in downtown Toronto. With the triumph, the 23-yr-old Toronto native earned himself a one-year contract with Sportsnet and a one-year spokesperson contract with Gillette Canada.
Following an intense audition and online voting process that began in June, Bruno survived a series of sports challenges and trivia aimed at exposing his personality, sports IQ, and on-air potential on his way to being crowned the winner of Gillette DRAFTED. The Ryerson University student will now get his start as a national television sports broadcaster beginning in the New Year.
“This is an absolute dream come true,” said Anthony Bruno. “I’ve been dreaming about being a sportscaster since I was a teenager and my hard work has finally paid off. I’m proud of myself.”
The finale of the eight-episode original series kicked off with the elimination of three of the six remaining hopefuls, leaving Harrison Bourdon (Vancouver), Joseph Otoo (Vancouver) and Bruno to compete in one final challenge before being handed down their fate by the show’s judges: Greg Sansone (Head of Programming, Sportsnet) Jennifer Seiler (Gillette Brand Manager), Cam Stewart (host, Sportsnet) and Jackie Redmond (anchor, Sportsnet).
“This isn’t just a reality show. We’re hiring someone who is working alongside us,” said Greg Sansone, Head of Programming, Sportsnet. “Anthony’s ability to be resilient made him a great fit for Sportsnet and Gillette.”
“I thought Anthony displayed an incredible amount of confidence, passion and integrity throughout the competition,” said Jennifer Seiler, Gillette Brand Manager. “In true Gillette form, he worked really hard at becoming the best he can be.”
Currently enrolled at Ryerson University in the Radio and Television Arts program, Bruno grew up with aspirations of playing in the NHL. His favourite sports teams include his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
