Jordan Romano will be sidelined after suffering a mild left ankle sprain after slipping while walking his dog, Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Thursday.
The Blue Jays expect Romano, who’s from Markham, Ont., to be ready for opening day.
Romano can take solace in the fact he’s not alone on the Blue Jays in suffering an unconventional injury: last season, pitcher Alek Manoah slipped and fell down rain-soaked dugout steps at Sahlen Field and bruised his back, and was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right back contusion, missing his next start.
Last spring, then-Blue Jays starter Robbie Ray bruised his elbow after slipping down stairs while carrying his child.
