Two Original Six teams are making some moves in hopes of reversing their fortunes for next season.
The Boston Bruins have acquired defenceman Victor Soderstrom from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenceman Ryan Mast and a 2025 seventh-round pick, the teams announced Friday.
Soderstrom, 24, spent last season back home in Sweden with Brynas IF Gavle in the SHL. The blue-liner picked up nine goals and 28 assists in 49 regular-season games, along with one goal and seven assists in 17 post-season games.
Originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes 11th overall in 2019, Soderstrom has had sporadic stints in the major league. He last suited up in the NHL in 2024, playing three games for the Coyotes in the 2023-24 season.
Over his four years in the league, he has one goal and 10 assists in 53 games. He also has 16 goals and 66 assists in 170 American Hockey League games.
Mast, meanwhile, spent the 2024-25 season with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, picking up five assists in 37 games.
The 22-year-old was drafted 181st overall in the sixth round of the 2021 Draft. He has yet to make his NHL debut.
