Kaiden Guhle will have a late start to his pre-season with the Montreal Canadiens.

The defenceman will be re-evaluated in seven days after having his appendix removed Wednesday, the Canadiens said Thursday before the first on-ice session at training camp.

Guhle, 22, had six goals and 16 assists in 70 games in his second NHL season last year.

The Canadiens picked the Edmonton native in the first round (16th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.
