Toronto Blue Jays infielder Breyvic Valera has been claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres, the team announced Wednesday.

Valera was designated for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster for reliever Rafael Dolis, who was signed to a one-year deal on Feb. 8.

The Blue Jays claimed the 28-year-old off waivers from the New York Yankees last season. He slashed.267/.267/.533 in 15 at-bats, hitting a home run and collecting three RBI with Toronto. In 54 career games since the start of the 2017 season, Valera has a .223/.294/.298 line while playing for five different teams.
