The Toronto Blue Jays have signed reliever John Axford to a minor-league deal, according to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.
The contract will pay the Canadian $1.65 million if he makes the team.
Axford made it known earlier in the off-season that he hoped to return to the Blue Jays, expressing interest in helping mentor the team’s younger pitchers.
The 35-year-old right-hander featured in 45 games for the Blue Jays last season, posting a 4-1 record with a 4.41 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 51 innings.
