Gotta See It: Syndergaard makes long-awaited Game of Thrones cameo

It’s been a while since we’ve seen New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard on the baseball diamond, but fans were still able to watch him in action on Sunday night—on the battlefield, that is.

The injured pitcher—he’s been out since the beginning of May with a partially torn right lateral muscle—traded in his baseball for a spear in a quick cameo in Episode 4 of Season 7 of Game of Thrones.

In his cameo, Syndergaard was part of the Lannister army (thanks to those Thor-like blonde locks) and showed off his impressive arrow-throwing skills, striking out his opponent during an intense battle scene.

Baseball-loving Game of Thrones fans have been on the lookout for Syndergaard since the cameo was announced back in the spring, as both the pitcher and the show’s producers stayed quiet about when the Met would make his HBO debut.

Syndergaard tweeted about the lightning-fast appearance after it aired, confirming that it was indeed him.

We won’t specify whether or not he made it out alive… but let’s just say things got pretty heated.

He also poked fun at his side’s outcome—which maybe you shouldn’t read if you’re really sensitive about any kind of spoilers from Sunday’s episode.

In addition to basically always looking like he’s walked off the HBO show’s set, Syndergaard has long been a big fan of the hit series, expressing his fandom through his warmup song (the epic GoT theme song) and even through the naming of a few of his gloves: Tyrion and Jon Snow.

This isn’t the first collaboration between Major League Baseball and HBO. The MLB announced a partnership with Game of Thrones prior to the start of Season 7 of GoT and Season 2017 of MLB, which has so far also included some pretty cool bobbleheads and some Game of Thrones-themed ballpark nights.
