BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles have activated infielder Cesar Izturis from the 60-day disabled list and placed rookie left-hander Zach Britton on the 15-day DL with a shoulder strain.

Izturis started at second base on Friday night against Toronto. He had been sidelined since May 13 with a right elbow injury.

His return coincides with an apparent high ankle injury to shortstop J.J. Hardy, who did not start against the Blue Jays and is day to day, manager Buck Showalter said.

Britton is 6-9 with a 4.66 ERA .

To clear space for Izturis on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated right-hander Brandon Erbe for assignment.

Baltimore is expected to place right-hander Jake Arrieta (elbow) on the disabled list Saturday and recall pitcher Chris Tillman, who will start against the Blue Jays.
