Red Sox trade infielder Ciriaco to Padres

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox traded infielder Pedro Ciriaco to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named or cash.

Ciriaco was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Monday.

He hit .216 in 28 games for Boston this season at all four infield positions. He also appeared in five games as a pinch runner.

Ciriaco has batted .287 with three home runs and 30 RBIs in 135 major league games over three seasons for Pittsburgh and Boston.
