Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers are closing in on a big-money long-term contract extension, according to multiple reports.
The new deal between the Dodgers and the star outfielder could be completed as soon as Wednesday and could be for 12 years and more than $380 million, as per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Betts, 27, is getting set for his first season with the Dodgers after being acquired by the team in a blockbuster three-team trade with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins in early February.
The 2018 American League MVP slashed .295/.391/.524 in his final season with the Red Sox while hitting 29 home runs, recording 80 RBIs and leading the league in runs scored with 135.
The Dodgers get their shortened 2020 season underway Thursday at home against the San Francisco Giants.
