Eloa Latendresse-Regimbald will get his chance to show what he can do in the CFL, but where he will play will be something to watch
The dual-threat prospect was selected by the Edmonton Elks with the 58th overall pick in the 2026 CFL Canadian Draft, emerging as the only player officially listed at both quarterback and receiver to hear his name called.
Ahead of the draft, Latendresse-Regimbald had said that he would be open to switching positions and playing at receiver if a team asked him.
“I’d be open to it, 100 per cent,” Latendresse-Regimbald told 3DownNation back at the CFL combine. “Playing in the CFL, it’s one of my dreams, and whatever it’s gonna take to have a contract and to help a team out, I’ll gladly do it.”
A similar situation played out with Brad Sinopoli, who was selected as a quarterback by the Calgary Stampeders back in 2011 after winning the Hec Crighton Trophy as a quarterback with the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
However, Sinopoli was stuck in a logjam at quarterback so the Stampeders had him play at receiver, and he would finish his career with 5,741 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns in 139 career games.
Latendresse-Regimbald finished his U Sports career with 3,845 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. On the ground, he recorded 1,631 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in 17 career games.
He was named the U Sports rookie of the year in 2022 after leading all rookie quarterbacks with 2,004 passing yards. He was also 11th overall in rushing yards nationally, tops among quarterbacks with 602.
