VANCOUVER — B.C. Lions long snapper Dan McCullough retired Friday after four seasons with the team.

McCullough, an undrafted product of Bishop’s University, made the Lions’ lineup in 2008 and didn’t miss a start in 72 games.

"Dan informed us this week of his decision to retire in order to pursue business interests," said Lions general manager Wally Buono in a statement. "He was a dedicated player who made our club through sheer hard work and determination. We wish him the very best in the future."

McCullough, who had 26 career special teams tackles, was replaced by long snapper and defensive lineman Sean Ortiz, who signed with the Lions Friday.

Meanwhile, the Lions also released defensive back J.R. Ruffin, who appeared in three games last season and had four tackles.
