The defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders, who led the Canadian Football League last year in lost man games due to injuries, have lost the services of starting fullback Chris Szarka with a cracked foot bone suffered in practice on Thursday, Sportsnet.ca has learned.
Szarka, who missed several games last year when he severed some finger tendons while operating a bandsaw at home, is slated to be sidelined two to four weeks.
The Roughriders are still uncertain whether starting centre Jeremy O’Day will be able to play in the season opener this Saturday at home against Edmonton. O’Day has been nursing a wonky ankle.
