CALGARY — The Stampeders have their first pick in this year’s draft under contract.
The CFL club signed defensive lineman Ameet Pall on Tuesday after taking the 25-year-old fifth overall on May 3.
The Montreal native played four seasons at Wofford College, making 29 tackles, including two sacks, last season.
Pall had 12.5 sacks as a junior, which made him attractive to the Stampeders, who ranked near the bottom in sacks last season.
"It’s great to have Ameet signed and we can now focus on bringing the young man to training camp," Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement. "We have been impressed with his work ethic and believe Ameet will work hard to earn a spot on this football club."
Prior to college, Pall was captain for two seasons at Montreal’s Vanier College and was named the most valuable player in the CEGEP championship games of 2006 and 2007.
