CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders have raised the competition among receivers for training camp by signing imports Vincent Marshall, Titus Ryan, Jermaine Jackson and Johnny Thomas.

"The success of our current group of receivers is well-documented. The core has been together for several years and their production speaks for itself," Stampeders coach and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement. "But as a football team, you’re always trying to improve in every area and this new group of receivers will create good competition at camp."

Marshall, 25, totalled 372 yards, including one touchdown, over five games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season. The University of Houston product played three games for the Roughriders in 2007 after attending Atlanta Falcons training camp.

Jackson, out of Saginaw Valley State University, has played for the Port Huron Pirates of the Great Lakes Indoor Football League and Fort Wayne Fusion of Arena Football League 2.

Ryan had stints on the practise squads of the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Thomas, 19, played two years at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He had 71 catches for 998 yards and 13 touchdowns in 14 games.

The defending Grey Cup champions open the 2009 regular season July 1 at home against the Montreal Alouettes.
