CALGARY — Calgary Stampeders receiver Brett Ralph is retiring from professional football after six years in the CFL.

The 28-year-old from Raymond, Alta., spent his entire career with the Stampeders. He scored a 20-yard touchdown in Calgary’s Grey Cup win over Montreal in 2008.

"I did a semester of school this off-season and as the semester came to a close, I began to look at my future past pro football," Ralph said in a statement Monday. "It forced me to make a tough decision and I decided it was time to move on to my life after football."

The five-foot-10, 184-pound Ralph did not miss a game during his career with 90 regular-season appearances and seven playoff games. He compiled 175 catches for 2,507 yards and 12 touchdowns.

"It’s unfortunate to lose a player who has shown great character and commitment to the team, but we have a lot of competition at the receiver position and someone now has a chance to step up at camp," Stampeders coach and GM John Hufnagel said.

Calgary chose Ralph in the sixth round (45th overall) of the 2005 draft.

Ralph is the younger brother of Winnipeg receiver Brock Ralph.
