Tony Miles’ second stint with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats has come to an end.
The CFL club released the veteran receiver Thursday, along with offensive lineman Charles Thomas.
Miles is the second veteran receiver to be released by the Ticats this week. On Monday, Canadian Pat Woodcock, who signed with Hamilton as a free agent after the ’07 campaign, was among six players let go by the CFL club.
Miles began his CFL career with Hamilton in 2002 but was dealt to Toronto in 2003 with fullback Randy Bowles for defensive end Joe Montford. He was a member of Toronto’s Grey Cup-winning team in 2004 but re-signed with the Ticats as a free agent Feb. 16, 2008.
But injuries limited Miles to just nine games with Hamilton last year. He recorded 38 catches for 450 yards and no touchdowns.
The Ticats signed receivers Willie Quinnie and Johnnie Morant on Thursday.
The six-foot-two, 180-pound Quinnie returns for a second stint in Hamilton. He appeared in eight games with the Ticats in 2006 mostly as a kickoff and punt returner. Quinnie has spent the last two years with the Arena Football League’s Colorado Crush, registering 123 catches for 1,256 yards and 30 touchdowns last season.
The six-foot-four, 235-pound Morant appeared in four games with Toronto last season, recording six catches for 127 yards and a touchdown. Morant spent three seasons with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders after being taken in the fifth round (134th overall) by the club in the 2004 NFL draft.
