WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed their third-round pick in the 2012 CFL entry draft and an import receiver.
Johnny Aprile, six-foot-two and 208 pounds out of Queens, was the 16th pick overall earlier this month and the Bombers plan on using him as a defensive back.
At Queens, he had 594 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 31 receptions last season. That worked out to 84.9 yards per game, seventh in Canadian Interuniversity Sports.
As a kick returner, he led the CIS with 36.5 yards per return with two touchdowns.
Import receiver Doug Pierce, six-five and 190 pounds, recorded 91 receptions for 1,693 yards and 20 touchdowns in two seasons at Friends University.
Pierce signed with the Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League earlier this season where he had 38 receptions for 505 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also spent time with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League.
