Andrew Luck thanks Colts fans with full page in Indianapolis Star

Nate Burleson explains why Colts fans should be embarrassed for booing Andrew Luck off the field after finding out he was retiring.

Former NFL quarterback Andrew Luck took out a full page in Sunday’s Indianapolis Star to thank Colts fans for his eight years with the team.

Luck, 29, spent his entire career with the Colts since they drafted him first overall in the 2012 draft.

He surprised many by announcing his retirement from football on Aug. 24 in an impromptu news conference after often being injured.

In his letter, Luck says it was the “honour of a lifetime to represent the Colts and the city of Indianapolis on the world’s stage.”

“Thank you for an incredible eight years. For welcoming me with open arms. For helping me grow on and off the field. For helping Nicole and I make Indiana our home,” the letter says. “And for showing us the true meaning of Hoosier hospitality.”

Luck was coming off one of his best seasons where he threw for 4,593 yards and 39 touchdowns as the Colts won a wild-card game before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round.

He suffered a strained left calf in March and lingering ankle pain limited Luck’s participation as Indianapolis prepared for this year’s campaign.

He signed off the letter as “Andrew Luck 12.”
