Hockey Canada is expected to announce this week the roster for the Canadian Olympic ice hockey team represented at the upcoming Beijing Olympics, according to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek on Hockey Night in Canada's 32 Thoughts segment.
After Marie-Philip Poulin's overtime heroics in the Canada-USA Rivalry Series in Games 5 and 6, the Canadian team is flying to Toronto.
"Three cuts Hockey Canada has to make," Marek said.
The big question upcoming for Canada is how they are going to construct the roster.
"Do they go 14 [forwards] and six [defence] like they did in Pyeongchang or 13 and seven?" Marek said.
Cuts will be made on Dec. 21, with the official roster announcement taking place on Dec. 22.
The Canadian women won a silver medal at the Pyeongchang Olympics, losing to Team USA in a shootout. Canada won the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Calgary, defeating the United States in the gold medal game.
Canada's first game in the women's Olympic ice hockey competition is on Feb. 3 against Switzerland.
