Daniele Sauvageau returns to Canadian women's hockey team as GM

Danièle Sauvageau is the next general manager of the Canadian women's hockey team.

Sauvageau returns to the national team after coaching Canada to its first Olympic gold medal in women's hockey in 2002 in Salt Lake City.

Sauvageau's contract as national team general manager extends to the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps.

The 64-year-old from Montreal will remain general manager of the Professional Women's Hockey League's Montréal Victoire and hold both jobs for the 2026-27 season.

But Hockey Canada said in a statement it expects Sauvageau to be the full-time GM and vice-president of hockey operations for the national women's team starting next year and for the remaining three years of her contract.

Canada lost 2-1 in overtime to the United States in the women's Olympic hockey final in Milan, Italy, in February. The 2026 world championships are in Denmark in November.
