OHL: Bulldogs top IceDogs in Game 5, advance to 3rd round

HAMILTON – Robert Thomas had a goal and an assist as the Hamilton Bulldogs advanced to the Ontario Hockey League conference final by doubling up the Niagara IceDogs 4-2 in Game 5 of their second-round series on Thursday.

The Bulldogs will face the winner of the series between the Barrie Colts and Kingston Frontenacs in the next round.

Matthew Strome, Nicolas Caamano and MacKenzie Entwistle also scored for Hamilton and Benjamin Gleason chipped in with two assists.

Johnny Corneil and Ben Jones supplied the offence for the IceDogs.

Bulldogs goaltender Kaden Fulcher stopped 30 shots. Niagara’s Stephen Dhillon made 30 saves.

FRONTEANCS 7 COLTS 1

BARRIE, Ont. — Gabriel Vilardi scored twice as Kingston downed the Colts in Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in their second-round series.

Max Jones, Brett Neumann, Jason Robertson, Sean Day and Matt Hotchkiss also scored for the Frontenacs, who will host Game 6 on Friday.

Jason Willms had the lone goal for Barrie.

RANGERS 5 STING 3

SARNIA, Ont. — Givani Smith scored the go-ahead goal 8:03 into the third period as Kitchener topped the Sting in Game 4 to tie their second-round playoff series at two games apiece.

Kole Sherwood, Austin McEneny, Jonathan Yantsis and Connor Bunnaman also scored for the Rangers, who host Game 5 on Friday.

Connor Schlichting, Brayden Guy and Jordan Kyrou scored for Sarnia.
