LONDON, Ont. — Michael Fine scored a hat trick as the Saginaw Spirit beat the London Knights 5-2 to take a 2-1 lead in their Ontario Hockey League playoff series Monday.
Carlos Amestoy and Garret Ross also scored for the Spirit, who pulled away with four unanswered goals.
Brandon Saad meanwhile added two assists to give him five points in two games and 17 points in nine playoff games.
Matt Rupert and Jared Knight had a goal apiece for London, which also lost 5-2 on Sunday.
Jake Paterson made 42 saves for Saginaw, while at the other end Michael Houser stopped 29 shots for the Knights.
Rupert gave London a 1-0 lead 2:50 into the first period, but Amestoy tied the game heading into the second.
Knight put London back up 2-1, but Ross scored less than a minute later to key Saginaw’s run.
Fine scored once in the second then added two more in the third to put London away.
The series returns to Saginaw for Game 4 on Wednesday.
