This year's first overall pick in the OHL Draft is the son of a former NHL goaltender.
Forward Kane Cloutier was selected first overall by the Oshawa Generals on Friday night.
He is the son of Dan Cloutier, who played 351 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings.
The younger Cloutier spent the 2025-26 season with the USHL's Vaughan Kings (U16 AAA), recording 32 goals and 26 assists for 58 points in 33 games.
The 15-year-old Oakville, Ont., native also appeared in four OHL Cup games with the Kings this past season, posting six goals and five assists.
Cloutier's father played in the OHL for the Soo Greyhounds and Guelph Storm.
The 50-year-old currently serves as the Storm's special assistant to the general manager and previously worked as a goaltending coach with the Barrie Colts before spending six seasons as a goaltending consultant and then coach in the NHL with the Canucks.
Maple Leafs forward John Tavares attended the draft in Kingston, Ont., to announce Oshawa's selection. The Generals were one of his former junior teams, selecting him first overall in the 2005 draft with exceptional player status.
