Avalanche, Grigorenko avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

St.Louis’ shutout streak came to an end as Colorado’s Mikhail Grigorenko beat Brian Elliot.

The Colorado Avalanche have avoided arbitration with forward Mikhail Grigorenko.

Grigorenko signed a one-year contract with the Avalanche worth $1.3 million ahead of an arbitration hearing that was scheduled for Friday, July 22. The native of Khabarovsk, Russia, can clear his schedule for the weekend.

The Avalanche acquired Grigorenko, along with defenceman Nikita Zadorov, forward J.T. Compher, and a second-round pick from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forwards Ryan O’Reilly and Jamie McGinn, at the 2015 NHL Draft.

Grigorenko skated in 74 games with the Avalanche in 2015-16, totalling six goals and 27 points.

The Sabres originally selected Grigorenko 12th overall at the 2012 NHL Draft. The 22-year-old has registered 12 goals and 41 points in 142 career games.
