The St. Louis Blues have signed defenceman Justin Faulk to a seven-year extension after acquiring him via a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Faulk’s new deal, which will begin in 2020-21, is worth $45.5 Million and carries a cap hit of $6.5 million.

The Blues announced the pair of transactions on Tuesday.

Faulk has one more season remaining on his current contract, which has a $4.83-million cap hit.

“We are excited to add Justin to our core group for the next eight years,” Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong said in the team’s press release. “He’s a Top-4 defenceman who averages over 23 minutes a game and we are confident he will be a strong addition to our club.”

In addition to his ability to log big minutes, Faulk has also been a strong offensive presence with his ability to drive plays from the blue line. In 559 games with Carolina, the 2010 second-round pick (37th overall) has registered 85 goals and 258 points.
