Canadiens add goaltending depth by signing Al Montoya

The Montreal Canadiens added some goaltending depth by signing Al Montoya to a one-year contract Friday.

With Mike Condon an unrestricted free agent, the Habs were in the market for a backup to Carey Price. Montoya performed admirably in a backup role with the Florida Panthers the last two seasons. Montoya went 12-7-3 with a 2.18 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in 25 games last season.

The 31-year-old American, drafted sixth overall in 2004, is 55-40-18 in his NHL career which has been split the Coyotes, Islanders, Jets and Panthers.
