Canadiens’ Jake Evans leaves game vs. Penguins and won’t return

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Brandon Tanev delivers a big hit on Montreal Canadiens Jake Evans.

Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans has left Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and will not return, the Canadiens announced.

It is not yet known if Evans is being held out due to injury or for precautionary reasons.

During the second period, Penguins forward Brandon Tanev followed through on a hit on Evans, knocking him into the glass. No penalty was given on the play.

Evans was slow to get up and needed to be helped to the dressing room by Canadiens medical staff. Video of him leaving the ice appeared to show him bleeding, with a cloth pressed to his face.

The 24-year-old was making his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut with Montreal. He appeared in 13 regular season games for the Canadiens, scoring twice and adding one assist.
