The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Gustav Olofsson to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2020-21 season, the team announced Wednesday.

The deal will see the six-foot-three, 196-pound rearguard paid $750,000 in the NHL and $250,000 in the AHL, with a guaranteed salary of $350,000.

Olofsson, 25, had 17 points across 59 games with the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, this season and went pointless in three games with the big club.

Across his seven professional seasons, Olofsson has appeared in 59 NHL games with the Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild since being drafted by the latter in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

His best season came in 2017-18 when he suited up for 41 games with the Wild and notched eight assists.
