The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Ryan Poehling to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Sunday.

Poehling, 20, will join the club for the rest of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Lakeville, Minn., native has spent the past three seasons with St. Cloud State University, posting 75 points through 107 appearances. He has 31 points through 36 tilts this season.

With the 20-year-old set to join the club this season, Montreal will burn the first year of Poehling’s three-year contract. The young Team USA product will not need to be protected in the upcoming expansion draft.

Poehling earned a silver medal with the American squad at the 2019 world juniors, earning MVP and Best Forward honours in the process.

He was originally drafted 25th overall by the Canadiens back in 2017.
