The New Jersey Devils have avoided arbitration with restricted free agent Will Butcher by agreeing to a three-year, $11.2 million contract with the defenceman.
The contract carries an average annual value of $3.733 million.
Butcher, 24, is coming off two seasons with the Devils where he’s been a reliable playmmaker from the blue line.
Last season in 78 games the Sun Prairie, WISC., native had four goals and 30 points.
The contract means the two sides will avoid their arbitration hearing that was scheduled for Aug. 2. Pavel Zacha is now the Devils’ last un-signed restricted free agent, and the team has just over $8.7 million in cap space to fit him in under, according to CapFriendly.com.
