Elias Pettersson ‘feels good’ in recovery from concussion

Ron MacLean, Nick Kypreos, Chris Johnston and Elliotte Friedman discuss all the big news from around the NHL including William Nylander's contract negotiations, Elias Pettersson's injury update and much more.

Elias Pettersson skated during the week and says he “feels good” as a potential return to the Vancouver Canucks lineup draws closer.

“The good news is he skated for 20 minutes,” Nick Kypreos explained during Saturday’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. “But we do know that after the skate, he told the hockey club that he feels good and he wants to play ASAP.

“Highly unlikely they’ll want to play him on the road,” said Kypreos when speaking about Pettersson’s return date. “I think it’s realistic that we could be looking at his return next Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.”

As of Thursday, there were no setbacks in Pettersson’s recovery, which is obviously good news for the player and the Canucks.

Pettersson sustained the concussion after he was slammed to the ice by Florida Panthers defenceman Mike Matheson on Oct. 13. Matheson was subsequently suspended two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
