The Dallas Stars have re-signed defenceman Esa Lindell to a two-year, $4.4-million contract extension.

Lindell had six goals and 18 points in 73 games with the Stars this past season, his first in the NHL. He was second on the team in average ice time (21:52) and blocked shots (119).

“Esa displayed great composure during his first season in the NHL and we look forward to his continued development as a top player on our defence,” said Stars GM Jim Nill in a press release.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound native of Vantaa, Finland was originally selected by Dallas in the third round (74th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. Lindell has spent parts of the past three seasons playing for the AHL’s Texas Stars.
