Does Flames’ Alex Chiasson’s spear warrant a suspension?

After a whistle, Calgary Falmes forward Alex Chiasson spears Philadelphia Flyers forward Nick Cousins in the mid-section, gets a five-minute major for spearing and a game misconduct.

Calgary Flames forward Alex Chiasson received a major penalty and game misconduct for spearing in the first period against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night.

The play was stopped when Chiasson skated past the Flames bench and got his stick into the mid-section of Nick Cousins. Cousins went down in pain and a linesman was right there to witness the entire sequence.

Chiasson was originally assessed a double minor for spearing but after conferring, the referees decided to change the call.
