The Calgary Flames‘ difficult start to the season just got a lot tougher.
According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, Johnny Gaudreau has suffered a broken finger that required surgery.
Gaudreau was roughed up in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over the Minnesota Wild.
After scoring the eventual game winner in the first period, the speedy forward left the game twice upon receiving multiple slashes and shoves throughout the game. He left once during the second period and did not return after leaving the ice in the third.
Like the Flames, Johnny Hockey didn’t have the best start to his season — he had just two goals in his first 14 games — but looked to be getting his scoring touch back with three goals in his last three games. He now has 11 points through 17 games.
The Flames confirmed the news and announced that the surgery will be performed Wednesday.

The Flames are currently tied with the Vancouver Canucks for second-last place in the league with a record of 6-10-1. They’ll host the last-place Arizona Coyotes Wednesday night.
