Former Oilers defender Andrej Sekera signs one-year deal with Stars

Former Edmonton Oilers defenceman Andrej Sekera has signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Stars. The veteran will earn $1.5 million in 2019-20 on the new deal, with possibility of an extra $500,000 in bonuses.

Sekera is coming off a pair of seasons with Edmonton in which he was limited by injury, suiting up for just 24 games last season and 36 the year prior. In his last full season, 2016-17, the veteran posted 35 points for the Oilers.

Prior to his stint in Alberta, the 33-year-old spent a brief 16 games with the Los Angeles Kings, two years with the Carolina Hurricanes, and seven years with the Buffalo Sabres.

Sekera heads into 2019-20 with 236 points through 707 career NHL tilts, averaging 20:38 minutes of ice per game over the course of his career.
