Just days after Don Cherry came to the defence of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri on Coach’s Corner, comedian Gerry Dee echoed his sentiment Monday morning.
In an appearance on Dean Blundell & Co. on Sportsnet 590 The Fan, Dee wondered why the Maple Leafs were being so hard on Kadri.
“Is he being made a whipping boy because he’s an (restricted free agent)?” Dee said. “Is it a chance to hold his contract over his head as an RFA? I don’t know.”
Kadri received a three-game team-imposed suspension last week after missing a team meeting. Dee questioned whether the Leafs would’ve handled Dion Phaneuf or Phil Kessel in the same manner had one of the two showed up late for a team meeting.
