There were already a few good reasons to like Boston Bruins defenceman Andrew Ference (hear us out, Canucks fans):
1. He gave us this hilarious Milan Lucic Sloth-like photo.
2. His Twitter handle is the playful (and possibly rude) “Ferknuckle.”
3. He married a down-to-earth professional snowboarder.
4. He’s man enough to admit his mistakes, even if that mistake is flipping off Habs fans.
5. He’s an eco-warrior who took the Stanley Cup for a bike ride.
Wednesday — the day of the first major sporting event held in Boston after Monday’s Marathon attack — revealed three more reasons to like the guy, even if you hate the Bruins:
1. Clinging to a one-goal lead in the third period, Ference showed the kind of effort he gives his team. Watch above as he makes an incredible save to bail out his goalie, Anton Khudobin. Kick save by a beauty.
2. Through Twitter, Ference showed fans the thoughtful little mementos he had custom-made for his teammates:

3. He was wonderfully candid after Wednesday’s game: “I was trying to keep my eyes dry for the first shift. It was really emotional,” Ference said. “You just try to do the city proud by working your butt off.”
