Hockey Night in Canada’s Glenn Healy took part in the Parapan Am Games torch relay in his hometown of Ajax on Thursday morning.
Healy, who was the last of 20 torch bearers to do a lap around Ajax Rotary Park carrying the flame, said it was a real honour to be chosen as a torch bearer.
“It means a lot,” he said. “These are athletes that give everything to compete and this is my community, so given the opportunity, I was honoured.”
Healy invited the rest of the torch bearers to join him for the final lap.
“When they were done [their lap], you could see there was that elation, so let’s do it one more time,” Healy said. “Twice is better than once.”
A few hundred community members came out to watch and cheer on their family members and friends as they made their way around the park with the torch.
“We all know each other, we all dig in for community events, so this was another community event where we all came together,” added Healy. “This is a great place to live.”
