The Carolina Hurricanes have signed free agent forward Max McCormick to a one-year, two-way contract. The contract will pay McCormick $700,000 at the NHL level.

McCormick, 27, had nine goals and 20 points in 45 AHL games with the Belleville Senators and Colorado Eagles last season. He also had one goal in 14 NHL games with the Ottawa Senators.

“Max is a hard-nosed forward who has shown a scoring touch and an ability to kill penalties at the AHL level,” said Hurricanes GM Don Waddell in a press release. “This signing adds depth to our forward group.”

McCormick has been a teammate of new Hurricanes forward Ryan Dzingel at the NCAA level with Ohio State and at the AHL and NHL levels in the Senators organization.
