Luke Kunin inks entry-level deal with Wild

Leo Komarov jokes about not having fun shadowing all the other team’s top lines, but is very happy for linemate Nazem Kadri for reaching the 30-goal mark.

Luke Kunin has left the University of Wisconsin after signing his entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild, the team announced Thursday.

The three-year deal will see the 19-year-old centre report to the AHL’s Iowa Wild for the remainder of the season on an amateur tryout. The contract will officially commence at the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

Kunin had 22 goals and 38 points in 35 games during his sophomore season with the NCAA’s Badgers. He served as the team’s captain and also wore the ‘C’ for the American gold medal-winning squad at the World Junior Championship.

The six-foot, 197-pound forward was selected 15th overall by the Wild in the 2015 NHL draft.
