Unrestricted free agent Kyle Wellwood has signed a one-month contract with EV Zug in Switzerland’s National League A, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.
Wellwood spent the last two seasons playing for the Winnipeg Jets where he registered 62 points in 116 total regular season games.
Last season, the 30-year-old Windsor, Ont., native had 15 points in 39 games with an even plus/minus rating.
Doug Shedden is Zug’s head coach and was Wellwood’s coach during the 2003-04 season while the two were with the St. John’s Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.
Wellwood was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round (134th overall) of the 2001 NHL Draft and has 235 points in 489 career NHL games.
