The Maple Leafs may move on in their pursuit of a playoff spot without Roman Polak for a couple games.
At the start of the third period Wednesday night, Polak drove Columbus Blue Jackets rookie forward Oliver Bjorkstrand into the boards from behind, as Bjorkstrand attempted to play the puck down low into Toronto’s zone.
The 21-year-old was helped off the ice, while Polak received a five-minute major and game misconduct.
Shortly after the game, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that it would review the play Thursday morning.
The league will also review the hit by Sabres defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen on Pittsburgh’s Jake Guentzel from Tuesday night.
