Maple Leafs sign veteran defenceman Matt Hunwick

The Maple Leafs signed Matt Hunwick on Wednesday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs struck quickly at the start of free agency, signing veteran defenceman Matt Hunwick to a two-year deal.

Hunwick, 30, recorded two goals and nine assists with 16 penalty minutes and a plus-17 rating in 55 games for the New York Rangers last season.

He has appeared in 347 career NHL games with the Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, and Boston Bruins.

The veteran blueliner was originally selected by Boston in the seventh round (224th overall) in the 2004 NHL Draft.
