Oilers assign Evan Bouchard, Colby Cave to AHL Bakersfield

Evan Bouchard sits down with SN’s Gene Principe to discuss his recent call-up to the Edmonton Oilers and reflects on his time with their AHL affiliate in Bakersfield.

The Edmonton Oilers have assigned defenceman Evan Bouchard and forward Colby Cave to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, suggesting Connor McDavid could be close to a return from injury.

McDavid has been out of the lineup since suffering a lower-body injury on Feb. 9. The injury was originally expected to be a knee issue, but later was diagnosed as a quad injury that required some extra attention. The captain returned to practice on Thursday and could be ready to go when the Oilers visit the Los Angeles Kings Sunday night.

Cave, 25, was recalled from Bakersfield when McDavid went down, his third session with the big club this season. He has one goal in 11 NHL games this season.

Bouchard has yet to get into an NHL game this season but was recalled from the AHL on Feb. 19 after Oscar Klefbom suffered a shoulder injury. The 20-year-old has had a stellar rookie season in the AHL, scoring 33 points in 50 games, good enough for third on the team.
