Edmonton Oilers defenceman Matt Benning left Sunday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks after being hit in the head with a puck.
Benning was playing in his first game after missing five with a concussion. He was activated from injured reserve on Nov. 29.
The incident happened in the end of the first period, when Canucks forward Josh Leivo attempted a shot that hit Benning in the back of the helmet. He was slow to get up and was immediately taken to the locker room.
No further details regarding the injury were provided by the team.
The 25-year-old has five assists through 23 games with the Oilers this season.
